Anthony Everett, President and CEO – Tourism Vancouver Island

Anthony has been involved in tourism in British Columbia for 30+ years starting his career at The Butchart Gardens in visitor services and then establishing Butchart Gardens’ Media Relations department. In 1999, he was recruited to Tourism Victoria to manage the Media Relations Department until 2003 when he joined the team at Tartan Public Relations as Account Director. In 2006, Anthony moved away from Vancouver Island to lead the Northern British Columbia Tourism Association until 2015.

From 2011 to 2017, Everett Chaired the Board of Directors for the 2015 Prince George Canada Winter Games Host Society, which hosted the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Well versed as a director with various organizational boards, he has gained invaluable experience from his involvement with the Myeloma Canada Board of Directors (June 2016 – present), the Canada Games Council Board (fall 2016 – present), go2HR (2012 – 2016), and as a Co-Chair of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Ambassador Program (2012 – 2015).

Anthony has earned significant achievements through his career including the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Prestige Award 2016, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the 2015 Prince George Citizen of the Year.

Well known for his achievements in community, organizational and economic development, George has a reputation for getting things done and ‘making a difference’. He has consulted for corporations, community organizations, district, municipal, provincial and federal governments on Vancouver Island and beyond. George has led a comprehensive urban renewal project to considerable, award-winning success—attracting significant business and redevelopment investment while helping to guide design policy.

He has served on numerous community committees charged with improving social, educational and economic conditions . He served as President of the Business Improvement Areas of British Columbia for two terms; served on Boards of the Oceanside Development and Construction Association and Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association; is a founding member and former Chair of YES Nanaimo; is a member of the Habitat for Humanity property Acquisition Committee; and is Vice-President of the Nanaimo Foundation.

George is the former Managing Director for the Downtown Nanaimo Partnership, former Development Manager for InSight Developments. He is Managing Partner of Clayton Consulting and President of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

Theo Assu Director, Experience Development & Training,

Theodore (Theo) Assu was born in Campbell River on Vancouver Island in his father’s community, the Wewaikai Nation.  Theo is also a member of the Haida Nation and was given the name Gidaanst and Gal Yahxda as a member of the Naa S’aagaas Xaaydagaa clan.

Theo holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in Finance from the University of British Columbia. Previously he worked for Deloitte Consulting focussing on First Nations community business and government with applicable experience in the public sector, policy development, business strategy, governance development, investment planning, organizational restructuring / transformation and project management. Following Deloitte, Theo joined the Haida Enterprise Corporation as their Business Development Manager and later became the General Manager of Haida Wild Seafoods – a subsidiary of HaiCo.

Ian MacPhee

Ian has been passionately involved in tourism all his life. From his childhood, growing up in Ontario’s 1,000 Island region and ultimately moving to Vancouver Island in 2003.  His drive for excellence and attention to detail has allowed him to provide “Remarkable Experiences” to many.

As Financial Controller, Ian currently heads up the accounting and administration department at Victoria’s Prince of Whales Whale Watching. Founded in 1995, Prince of Whales is BC’s largest marine adventure company having thrilled over half a million visitors and locals alike. Ian was previously a partner/innkeeper at Abbeymoore Manor Bed & Breakfast Inn. Abbeymoore is one of Canada’s most respected B&B Inns having won numerous awards including TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice award in 2010 as the #2 B&B Inn in the world.

In addition to his time with Tourism Vancouver Island, Ian has served the following organizations:
• Tourism Victoria Board of Directors 2005-2015 – Vice Chair Governance, Membership
• Professional Association of Innkeepers International – Advisor
• BC Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers Guild, Marketing Director – Treasurer
