Workshop Activity Room 2

Social Media and Tagging Workshops: Presentors: Catherine Janes and Jacqueline Simpson from Destination BC. Consider this: In our quickly changing social media landscape, word-of-mouth referrals and recommendations are the most powerful marketing tools in the travel industry. Catherine Janes will provide an overview of Destination BC’s social media strategy and highlight how destinations and businesses can aligning with them. In this session, participants will learn social media best practices, new trends, and tips on leveraging social media channels and tactics for their business.
Tagging Workshop will be presented by Jacqueline Simpson.
Digital transformation has significantly impacted the way travelers find, explore, book and share travel experiences, dramatically changing the nature of tourism and global competition. For destination marketers, it has become a digital battlefield; scale now trumps differentiation. And data is the new currency. Data provides marketers with real-time market intelligence and ways to find high potential customers.
Join us to learn how Destination BC is using tagging to gather data to generate consumer insights. These insights give us an understanding of BC's best customers, and the impact of our marketing programs. We'll explore what tagging is, why we're trying to tag the province, how you can benefit from tagging and how to tag your website.

Workshop - Charlie White Theatre

Succession Planning Workshop Presented by David Knapp-Fisher. It’s a fact: Employees that feel engaged, inspired and part of something bigger have better job retention, customer engagement and succession management than those who don’t.
Successful companies understand this; in fact they actively work to inspire their people to develop skills and traits that support them not just in the workplace, but also in life.
These companies understand that a people-centered workplace fosters loyalty by providing the tools, guidance and knowledge high-functioning individuals need to create real results both personally, and professionally.
This approach challenges both companies and people to reach farther, thereby setting them up for all around success today, and in the future.
This interactive workshop helps participants learn the importance of creating trust and loyalty with their people, and tools to put immediately put this idea into action.
In 90 minutes we’ll cover:
• How to Hire the Right People
• Inspiring Staff for Long Term Retention
• Team Building 101
• Succession Planning

Seeing meaning and finding purpose are 2 drivers of this new generation but how do we inspire them and bring out the best for our businesses? Join us as we explore the ins and outs of the young employees of today; how to avoid pitfalls and adjust our approach to harness their multitasking, tech-savvy, creative and adapatable energy.

Workshop - Bodine Hall

Crisis Management Workshop Presented by Jenn Houtby-Ferguson. Crises happen. And usually when we least expect it. As tourism professionals we obsess over details and yet too often fail to plan for the unthinkable. In this age of information, social media and reputation management are key competencies for venues, operators and entire destinations. The future of your business will be determined by the effectiveness of your crisis response. From food poisoning to rogue employees, how do you insulate your business/destination reputation during a crisis? Where are the risks? This eye opening session will help you be best, at planning for the worst.

Take Aways:
• It happened to them – could it happen to you?
• How to quickly spot a brewing crisis before its trending
• Be ready: how to create critical incident protocols
• Communication complication: regain control of your message
• Strategies: to manage your event/company brand
• Harness the power of social media: before, during and after a crisis
