Tourism Sustainability Nomination Form
The Award
Recognizes a tourism business in the Vancouver Island Region that has that set out to minimise their environmental impact, conserve natural resources, respect local cultures and benefit local communities in the past 12 months. Their commitment to environmentally responsible tourism and changing the way they conduct business serves as an example to the industry.
To be eligible for this award the individual must own or be employed by a tourism-related business operating within the Vancouver Island region. The criteria utilized to select the recipient of this award may include but is not limited to the following:
- Demonstrates an understanding of their environmental footprint (fuel, energy, water, waste)
- Measures their environmental impacts, which can include any use of accredited methodologies or audit techniques.
- Introduced a major initiative in the past 12 months that has reduced the environmental footprint
- Ensure that staff and customers are aware of local environmental conditions and take ownership of your sustainability policies/initiatives and adapt their behavior accordingly.
- Contributed to the improvement of local environmental conditions and inspired change in the local community.
- Have included the initiative (s) as part of your marketing strategy to improve the visitor experience.
Submissions:
Nominations for this award must be delivered to the offices of Tourism Vancouver Island no later than 4:30pm on the submission deadline, August 13, 2010.
